How Remtron and Vega modernised equipment, whilst reducing risk to personnel
The Challenge
Customer needed a way to clearly display water levels at the fire suppression booster pump.
A newly constructed industrial storage facility required installation of a fire suppression system (sprinklers). The requirement was due to the hazardous nature of the products to be stored. Due to the complex layout of the site, the customer faced a need to display water levels of the water storage tanks, at the booster pump stations.
Previously, water levels were monitored using mechanical float systems. This approach required fire fighters to walk away from their station to check the tank levels, a process that was time-consuming and inefficient, as well as dangerous due to the nature of the environment. Moreover, these tanks are often located at a considerable distance from the booster pump, creating delays that could be catastrophic in a fire emergency. Other issues with a float system are:
- Float Malfunction: Over time, floats can become stuck or fail to move freely due to sediment buildup, systems corrosion, or mechanical wear. This can lead to inaccurate or false readings.
- Maintenance Challenges: Regular maintenance is required to ensure the float mechanism works correctly.
Our Solution
Premier Service Group turned to us for a reliable solution. By understanding the challenges and limitations, Aaron Turner, one of our technical specialists, played a pivotal role in implementing the solution. He:
- Specified the ideal equipment for the project.
- Provided diagrams to assist with installation.
- Provided on-site engineering support during commissioning & helped resolve wiring issues.
- We specified the VEGAPULS C 11 Radar to constantly monitor the water level in each tank. And a VEGAMET 841 Robust Controller with an integrated Easy-to-read display at the booster pump.
- This setup eliminated the need for manual checks and provided real-time, accurate water level data for the fire fighters.

The Benefits
- Radar Technology: Radar sensors offer precise, non-contact level measurement.
- Integrated Display: The water level is clearly displayed, even in sunlight & darkness, enabling quick and easy monitoring.
- Reliability: Radar sensors are unaffected by sediment, corrosion, or environmental factors, ensuring consistent performance.
- Maintenance Free: The system requires minimal upkeep compared to float-based solutions.
Customer Testimonial
“It was a pleasure working with Aaron Turner. He was very knowledgeable and made the entire process smooth and efficient. The team at Remtron Townsville were incredibly helpful, ensuring everything was set up correctly. They assisted with the installation of fire tank level sensors at both Centurion Transport and the Harvey Norman Warehouse, and their professionalism and support were key in the success of these projects. “
